If it is any consolation I stuck my pole tip straight through the fly when packing up my 1p x-mid on the top of Mt Bogong. Not so pro-tip: never try and drop the tent without de-tensioning by releasing a couple of downwind pegs first..
The repair was easy: I sewed the hole by hand and then tenacious taped one side and silicon glued the other (this is what DD recommends). As good as new.
