im not standing at Eldon Bluff however you are correct about the mountains in the background (Mt Owen). Sorry if it was misleading about the quatzite clue, ive never actually been in the west coast range i was just under the impression that it was quartzite

OK - it is hard to find a mountain with a view down a valley towards Mt Owen - could it be from off the Cheyne Range?

Wow - the Cheyne Range is a place which has not really featured on this site yet. Nice to get a photo from there.

This next one may or may not be simple... a fair bit of zoom in it
Look closely:

I suggest you are in the area of Mt Lot and the gap at the back could be the Notch. Though, my (foggy) photos of it don't show it as well as they could.

EDIT I am even wondering whether you could be on the other side somewhere, as there seems to be a range extending out that way (as seen on a photo of mine from the top of Mt Anne).
1:15pm in the height of summer (New Years Day in fact), the direction of the sun is really confusing me on this one. But the rocky formations certainly suggest Mt Lot area. The only bit that doesn't fit is the colour of the rock directly below the person, not quite the orange-toned dolerite usually seen there. Haven't been out the other side myself so don't know the view from there.
If it is from the western side of Mt Lot (as I suspect), perhaps you are getting a good look at Lake Judd and the rocks on that side might be different to typical-coloured dolerite.
Just thoughts.

Now I'm even wondering whether you could be out on the ledge of the eastern side of Eliza looking down at the lake, haven't been out there either. Just thinking about your clue re fair bit of zoom.

No tasadam - not in the Anne area.

Some clues:
The rock he is on is quartzite - and the rocks in the background are dolerite.
There are almost 3 peaks in the photo - the top of the 3rd is just up the last ridge on the right.
No backpack = a day walk - in a very popular area.

Then it could be from Hansons area. Have to check my photos, I don't remember that many dolerite columns.

Yes tasadam - it is a shot of my son on top of Hansons Peak.

Behind is the Little Horn with the bulk of Cradle Mountain behind that.

Time for a couple of clues?
This mass of water is a bit of a sink hole it seems, the lowest surrounding land mass around this water is visible in the photo, so I guess it's a bit like a sink hole.
A smaller mass of water is just beyond that, the banks are visible in the sun just beyond (as is a bit of water if you go really big).
The cliffs to the right are pretty high, the tops of which were my access here...
I am not on a marked track but I am on a prominent unnamed land mass. Though I am at an altitude of over 1000 metres, this precise place is unnamed, as is the nearby summit at over 1050 metres. If I travel a few kilometres I will be on a named "mountain" that is less than 800 metres high.
It was taken recently and is my first visit here, though I did try once before, a long time ago.

tasadam, the game progresses fairly slowly these days. You need to give it longer until stu and mark check in the morning.

We have actually had a fairly similar shot put in a while back (last Sept).
But I am surprised you consider these sinkholes [though the obvious variation to the lake level must mean water drains out through the rocks - a bit like Tranquil Tarn off the edge of the Ben Lomond plateau]
The sheer cut cliff faces of Mt L.... and the moraine ridge outer lips seem to suggest these are glacial lakes.
But I love the surreal art-like nature of the dolerite column.
Of course the dolerite layer lines up with the male chook appendage further around the side of Mt L...

Morning all,
Cape Hauy from Waterfall Bay Track, maybe near O'Hara Bluff?

This is a case when answering gives it away.
Anyway - yes to Cape Huay and yes to Waterfall Bay Track - but this is not at O'Hara Bluff, but actually almost on the Waterfall bay carpark itself - starting along the track towards Pattersons Arch.

Excellent, an easy game is a quick game, this one has a named feature on either side of this pic, either will do.

Hands up all those who think this is from Quamby Bluff looking west towards Mother Cummings Peak?

Curious, but the lake does not appear on satellite view? How recently was it built?

you got it, i should have cropped mother cummings out to make it somewhat difficult. the dam (The Meander Dam, i think its now called Huntsman lake) started construction in late 2005 and would have filled up somewhere around 2006 maybe 07

My guess is somewhere in the Hartz range, looking west towards the Eastern Arthurs. Would I be in the ballpark with that guess?

I think it may be Laperouse, with Adamsons on the right, Hartz/Snowy next to that, Fedders in the distance. The pigsty ponds and Reservour Lakes can be seen to the left.
