OK, I'll jump in & have a go.
I think you are just below the summit of Pelion East looking north.
(This northern 'summit' is actually on Bob Browns 500 peaks list).

Correct indeed,
I'm annoyed I didn't go all the way out there now - I only went as far as the small tarns.

Thanks SBS.
I think I'd go out to Pelion East (North) next time i'm out that way too for a different perspective on the area.

Here's something different...

Obviously someone knows your walking history stu - but i did not know you were on the West Coast recently.

I can see a great view of Mt Tyndall with Julia Peak closer in.
So I presume that places you on the Red Hills looking south.
But I presume this was part of a longer treck? Perhaps a circuit up over Mt Murchison? I would love to see a photo of Lake Sandra?

I'll give it to you eggs, you're close but not quite correct.
The peak you refer to as Julia Peak is actually Newton Peak I think (we are on the summit of Julia Peak in this photo looking south to the Tyndalls).
This was a long day trip from Hobart which included Murchison & Julia peak; the weather was amazing & Murcho one of my favourite short walks anywhere. It was a very long day of driving tho; sometimes a road trip with mates is a fun day tho & with a couple of fresh summits an enjoyable day out.

The following photo was the view north from high on Julia Peak, just below the summit (Julia Peak only being just over an hour return from the road & very easy off track walking up open button grass leads; sometimes these 'Peak Baggers' peaks open up amazing views most people wouldnt normally see):

There's a bit much generosity of late.
I should have had a closer look - instead of just referring to my "Selina" map.
Newton Peak is on the next map on.

Here is a 30 year old scan - just to really get you thinking.
For location, name the lake or the main peak - I think the "Where's Wally's" are too obvious

Similar to the Peakbagger's list but BIGGER, there is an Excel doc with these peaks on.
It was compiled by Mr Brown in the early 80's I think, Stu would probably know more of it's origins.
500 peaks on the list.
If you want the list you can PM me.

Cheers, sbs

If you have followed some of my commentary, the clue is that this is 3 of my workmates at the time and we did it after work one evening.
Probably a 2 hour walk along some old and very eroded 4-wheel drive roads.

eggs, from my limited recollection I am thinking West Coast, but can't place this location - hope this helps someone else, or maybe you can correct me???

Yes - very much West Coast - At the time I was doing uni vacation work in the Renison Bell Tin Mine and staying in Zeehan.
Another hint. The lake is not natural - but is very old relatively speaking.
It is not hydro - and in its heyday - the slopes in view would have looked very different.

This is a bit of a stab in the dark but are you standing on either Cumberland Hill or Ernies Hill looking across Cumberland Lake to Mount Agnew.
It is easier to go down a hill than up, but the view is much better at the top.

Ooh - you actually have the lake right, but not the mountain.
But fairs fair - I said you only had to get one of them.
I am actually on an unnamed hill right on the edge of the Lake east of Ernies Hill and Cumberland Hill is in the photo on the LHS - the key Mt is Mt Heemskirk.

[Edit - you got me checking and I should clarify - Mt Heemskirk is the peak at the back left and is actually higher than the closer peak which is part of the ridge between Heemskirk & Agnew. I hope I can find time to get to this range again  ]

Lake Cumberland is man made and was setup to serve a series of mines in the area - including a number that were driven into the slopes in the photo.
There is also a nice waterfall off the outlet creek from the lake as it makes its way off the plateau.
This is the view to Mt Agnew:

I'm hopeless at this game, just do not remember the shapes of mountains! I've been to Lake Cumberland on a motorbike, and up the hill behind it. wasn't Lake Cumberland made to service the first hydro plant in the southern hemisphere or something?

Here's the next one.

I read on the internet that there were water turbines there proir to 1900 and that a company created a power scheme on the lake in 1928 -38. But the plants were used for Tin mining.

Are you in the Chinaman's Plains looking towards Rogoona?
Perhaps near Lake Toorah

It definitely looks like Mt Rogoona from the north somewhere. Are you standing near Lake Louisa?

Sorry about the delay. I have been at school for the day and only just been able to get back online now. Yes it is Ragoona from Chinamans Plains. It is taken from about 2 or 3 kilometres south west, up over the ridge and overlooking a small unnamed lake, from Lake Torah. We were heading to the northern end of Meston.

So you were in the right area eggs and bap.

Your go eggs...

It was a great photo robbo.
It was the angle on the double ridgeline of Rogoona that assists - plus the relatively high elevation of your spot.

Next one - quality is down a bit - another scanned slide.

Is this taken from the Nut?? Or somewhere near? It doesn't seem green enough, but the beaches definately look like that part of the state
