WTB (HOB, TAS) 3 person hiking or base camp tent. 3/4 season

Postby Niftynomad » Tue 03 Oct, 2023 11:23 pm

Hey folks

We're on the lookout for a 3 person (minifamily) bushwalking/basecamp tent.

3 to 4 season, not too heavy.

What have y'all?

Thanks,.

Would this be 3 full sized rugby players or two average sized people plus a toddler? How heavy would be too heavy?
Talked about on the forum quite a bit but I'm still in favour of two smaller tents plus a tarp.
My old FairyDown Plateau is unused and unloved at the moment but it is over 4.5 kilos and really a 4+ white season tent and tight for 3 adults

Hey MD

Thanks for your response- I think the Fairy might be a little overkill.

Thinking two adults and a little one.
2 tents and shelter would work well, I agree. At least someone, somewhere might get some sleep!
But the convenience of 1 pitch seems good...
We're considering Roman Cradle 3 (shock horror) OzTent.
But the vestibule and ventilation look naff.

Where might I find the thread with your thoughts?

I was just about to suggest the Anjan 3.
This makes me the first man to climb Mount Everest backwards, without oxygen...or even a jumper.

You missed out when I sold my own expedition tent but any tent with kids would benefit from an extended vestibule, so Nallo3 extended or similar would be my own recommendation

Thanks Pierre,

But I probably should have clarified that we're after a more traditional Geodesic or similar style poled tent.

2 vestibules would also be lovely.
