I have $50 poles that are mostly fine, but I want to get some that I can fold down into my pack, so figure I may as well go for slightly better quality at the same time - ppl tell me it makes a big difference.
Im 5'9 60kg and mostly just hike in nice weather - single and multi-day.
Willing to spend more, but don't want to go crazy i.e. up to $150 max.
Advice on what kind of 'fold-up' is best would also be helpful.
All recommendations welcome and appreciated!

Always keen on Black Diamond products, cliplock more durable than twistlock
and similarly prefer aluminium over carbon.
Your NZ trek is on really good paths and while hilly is not strenuous.

Like johnrs, I like Black Diamond. They have a nicer grip and balance than other poles I have tried.
I use the carbon poles for their weight saving, but I have broken two over ten years. Aluminium is definitely more robust.

I asked a similar question here when I joined and someone directed me to these heavily discounted Karrimor poles:

They are a three piece carbon telescopic pole with clip locks. They're good. Can't really fault them, especially for the price.
More recently I got a pair of Fizan/Durston poles along with an X-Mid tent. They are a four piece aluminium pole with a twist lock. The main advantage with these is that they pack up shorter. They are also a bit lighter and I suspect more rigid and durable. BUT the four pieces and twist locks are significantly slower and more annoying to adjust. And they cost more.
You can also get folding poles but I've never tried them. They look like they pack up small and would be quick to set up/put away, but are less adjustable/versatile and usually pretty expensive.

I can recommend the Salomon carbon poles, haven't use them loads but they are very light and I like the grips.
But I suspect all the folding sets will cost over $150, marketplace is your friend.
