Round Mountain Hut closure

Postby johnf » Tue 10 Dec, 2024 10:08 pm

I note that Round Mountain Hut is currently closed for reconstruction.
I was thinking of doing the Jagungal circuit over Christmas period.

Does anyone know if I arrive after dark, am I likely to find a couple of tent spots nearby but away from the construction works? The idea is to make a early start rather than driving in mid morning.

There always used to be good tent sites next to the car park. But if you want to get a bit of walking in after a late finish to the drive, I'm pretty sure there were good sites in the other side of the track, near the dunny. Depends how far the construction footprint extends, and if my memory is reliable.

The hut is on a terrace big enough for tents. This

is the from near the car park to a bit beyond the hut site (point 1). The flat clearing is pretty big, and there seems to be another one near the end.

Thank you, that sounds good, I have been there at least once, the last time ten years ago so my memory is a little vague. Didn't want to turn up in the dark without some confirmation that there should be space.

If you are going the Farm Ridge Trail direction there is a reasonable campsite down at the Tumut River crossing

Hey John,
Was the Farm Ridge Fire Trail in good condition?
Thanks
