Corang Loop

Postby jtmiske » Thu 09 Jan, 2025 8:53 pm

Tested out the new Corang Loop recently, showing the kidlets that the Corang River has swimming spots that rival those in NT's Litchfield, thankfully without the crocs. The conditions on this early December Saturday weren't that far off Top End miasma either. We left Wog Wog slightly later than planned (always) and made our way along the old track before coming to an obnoxious "keep out" fence. Pink ribbon then marked our way around the new enforced private property to a lovely sandy camp on the Corang River a few hundred metres east from Corang Lagoon proper. Unfortunately, the approaching storms that afternoon and knowing we had 15 km to motivate the littlies through the following day, meant we didn't backtrack and look at Corang Lagoon proper. On Sunday, we walked into the expected southeasterly change along the Corang River and Canowie flats then up into the fog on the escarpment. Views were absent but at least it wasn't hot! Streams were all up (probably still are with recent regular storms) which meant lots of water collection points and lots of taking shoes off and wading at crossings. Navigation along the new and old routes was easy, even in the descending cloud on Sunday. Keen to go further towards Nerriga next time.
