TIP: The online Bushwalk Inventory System can help bushwalkers with a variety of bushwalk planning tasks, including: Manage which items they take bushwalking so that they do not forget anything they might need, plan meals for their walks, and automatically compile food/fuel shopping lists (lists of consumables) required to make and cook the meals for each walk. It is particularly useful for planning for groups who share food or other items, but is also useful for individual walkers.

Suggestions air mat repair

Postby Tantell » Tue 20 May, 2025 7:23 am

Hi all, my S2S air mat sprung a leak/weld/seam a while ago and before i threw it out, just wondering for other repair ideas (most ive found are from US and have US products not available here).

S2S/snowys were great and replaced it with a new one which I use, just looking to save on landfill.

Ive tried the patch and also some gorrila tape. Photos below show good tape adherence but the air is still escaping and creating air pocket which will fail.

Thoughts, tips, ideas?
Thank you
Shaun

You did well to find it. I couldn't find the leak in mine. They had an issue with the welds on some of the earlier batches, and they have fixed it now. You could fix that leak but you'll probably find another will pop up.

Bicycle tube patch?
Even if it works, would you trust it enough to take it anywhere?

For what it is worth, I repaired a pin hole leak in a Thermarest simply by cleaning the location of the hole with alcohol and then applying a thin smear of silastic. This was all I had at hand on the occasion but surprisingly it lasted for the remaining life of the mat (another ten years). Dunno if it would work on a S2S, others here seem to be saying that yours has a seam failure issue.
