Looks a little bit like something just west of Ulverstone to me. Late in the day, looking ENE along the coast. Name of the islands not sure but there is some islands out there with "sisters" in their name, no time to look it up now. Might help someone else...

I knew I had seen this island before.

Haven't been down there yet (we had a whiteout on Pindars which is the closest I got) - but I can match a web picture from the South Coast track with this.
The trick was to realise that everything you can see in the distance are islands! (Hen, Isle Du Golfe, Dee Witt, Maatsukyer)
So are you on the headland between Prion and Osmiridian beaches?

Could this be around Ben Lomond area - perhaps a scree heading up towards Sphinx Bluff?

Definitely very north east for me......was also thinking along the lines of Ben Lomond somewhere. Certainly doesn't look like the Stacks Bluff track.......

Reminds me of Ragged Jack, which is not "on Ben Lomond massif" but is very close to it.

Not Quamby, not Ragged Jack.
The peak in view is on the Peak Baggers list tho if that helps.
Note the 'quarried' rocks & old fence in the foreground...

I would be surprised if it was Claude - that is conglomerate - but this photo is dolerite rocks.
I suspect he is on the Central Plateau somewhere near the Great Lake.

Not Wild dog, Wild dog isnt like this at all, Robl is closer VERY close. I wasnt with Stu on this walk, pretty easy to pick where he was though, if you've been here.

Funny TAS, I could have sworn you were there with us that day. Obviously a bit of old timers creeping in. I know Ollster, MJD and Dave definitely were.
Stu has alrerady mentioned this exact shot is in the Abels book, but it still seems to have stumped people.

Gosh - getting desperate when you give out page numbers!! But yes - it is an exact replica.

Lets see - 300m climb in less than 3 km return. That really is tourist stuff. :roll:

No wonder its called Sandbanks - though I think making castles and moats on it may be difficult.
Might it be a reference to the nearby lake shores?

Not the time I was with him Ivan.
I know stu has done it 4 times, the time I did it with him he didnt own a camera, so it definately wasnt taken on the day I was with him. This photo was taken on a much nicer day than the pooey day I was there!!
