Election Day walk

So with the election day coming up I was thinking of going for a walk that day. I was thinking it might be a bit quieter on the track that day.

Is it a quieter day that day? with everyone elsewhere.

Also do you pre-vote/postal vote so you have more time walking?

Yep, another one. Pre-voted last week as I plan to be out walking all day and nowhere near a polling place. Last election I got stuck in a queue at for 1/2 an hour waiting to vote. Not this time.

Nah, won't be out walking.......because I'll be heading down to the 'Cube' cafe in Launceston to meet-up with a bunch of other forum members!!

I'm going on a fitness walk into the Blue Gum forest starting at sunrise. We plan to be out by midday. I'll probably vote absentee in a rural electorate on the way home so that I don't have to fight the queues in my own electorate. I live in a safe seat so my vote for the lower house has no real significance. I'll think more carefully about my senate vote however.

sounds like a political debate I'll be happy to avoid. I'm a strong believer in needing strong Leftwing and Rightwing parties to keep things in the middle.

Ideally I'd love everyone in Australia to stop working on their cars, trucks, boats, put down the xBoxs, wiis, PS3s, computer games, and go out and start picking up rubbish, weed eradication, replanting trees, caring for wildlife, care for the elderly and less fortunate and enjoy nature. Then we could eat local, sustainable produce, yet with a strong mining industry to fund the schools, hospitals, universities, research, social welfare and the navy (for the sole purpose of protecting the coastline from illegal fishing). Then I'd love people to put aside their political, self-promoting motives in bureaucracies and simply do the job, so that less tax is gobbled up and instead going to thing it was destined for.

I'm sure I've missed out some fundamentals but that's a rough idea. Dare to dream...

I won't find out who won the election until about 8pm Sunday, or 10pm if they walk slowly and miss a train.

No republic plans. Although I'd like to get rid of compulsory voting so that more time could be spent hiking.

As for being PM. Well, if I could run the country single-handedly in my spare time when I wasn't researching historical documents or volunteering clearing out weeds and rubbish, then I might entertain the idea. I got a funny feeling it wouldn't be that easy.

Eddie: I use to work for Jones Enviro Services. And we had a branch that hired people with disability to help separate the recycled rubbish. It gave them so much self-respect and independance. It was so good. Not only were the bringing in a good wage, but they were also helping the environment through recycling. But Veolia came in and offered the council a lower price, and we lost the contract.

Post election day walk for me. Now that could be an interesting day that I hadn't thought too much about. If it isn't an early result then it could be a long night for some and dragging of the feet on the following day.
Hopefully any talking will be confined to where we are, or what walks we have done or would like to do. Pounds to peanuts though, I am sure it will enter our discussion at some point in the day - if not first up - if it is controversial.
