Christmas Trip? What does everyone have planned?

As for myself I think I will head down to the Kowmung via the Uni Rover Trail. Then up to Colong Caves and Mt Colong. Then Yeranderie via the River Rd. Then Byrnes Gap, Axehead Mt, Vengeance Peninsular, Green Wattle Ck. Then Broken Rock Range Butchers Ck. Scotts Main, Mt Feld, Dennis Ridge, Kowmung River, Christy's Ck. Amble Easy Ridge back to the Uni Rover Trail.

I aim to leave on the evening of the 27th and be back by NYE. Possible campsites: 27th Trail Camp, 28th Mt Colong, 29th Junction of Bull Island and Green Wattle creeks, 30th Christy's Ck.

Anyone else heading out that way? If so let me know and I'll keep an eye out for you.

Can someone confirm there is a way off Mt Relentless in the Blue Breaks?

A lot depends on whether my wife can recover from recent surgery in time to share pack-mule duties, or if it is going to be just the daughter and I.

I had also considered an overnight hike in Freycinet.

If all else fails, we'll spend a few nights at Pine Hut, if we're allowed.

We're hoping to do the OT next summer as well, though we'll probably go in through the Arm River Track. I'm considering breaking it into two trips, and restocking our supplies at home in Sheffield between them, not to mention feeding the fish and cats and watering the all important veggie garden. Trip 1 would be Arm River Track to Cradle, and Trip 2 Lee's Paddocks-Pelion-St Clair. Save a bit of dough on fees that way too.

Currently on Spirit of Tasmania and heading to Hobart for my father's 80th. I'm heading up to Cradle Mt on Wednesday and will have a look at Dove Lake. I set off on the OT with a family member on Thursday. Will be 7 nights on track. One of those will be in Pine Valley. Finish up @ Lake St Clair on the 23rd. My reading of the forecast is that it's going to be a pretty wet trip! I then head back to Hobart for Christmas with the family.

On return to Sydney soon after boxing day, I'm going to go on a number of daywalks. I have to go back to my usual routine soon after New Year.

unfortunately i've got visitors from afar who arent keen walkers. cant leave the visitors at home while i go bushwalking can I?

About 12 days based in Hobart with non-bushwalking Mrs. Although I'll try and convince her to do one or two easy walks with me. In any case I plan to do a few day trips on my own and some touristy stuff with her. We're flying down so I've hire a small car for about 9 days to get around.

Just wandering around the Snowies for 12 days or so. Apart from wanting to get out to the Sentinel and climb Jagungal up that lovely rocky ridge there's nothing concrete about it. Make it up as I go.
Just hope the weather has settled down a bit by then.

Which is frequently the case up there with the prevailing westerly, 20 knots is getting a bit stiff for walking though...(if you're sidling around those precipitous side slopes on the spur)

Not going anywhere. Going to sit in my lounge and watch the ducks landing on Cattail Pond and the rest of the local wildlife gad about. More rain here than you can shake a stick at.

I did too but found an alternative. I couldn't envisage straddling that rocky bit while kind of angling backwards over a precipice . Son (without fear of heights) couldn't manage it either, nor could the couple who came up behind us; the bloke had done it 10 years previously but must have lost some bravado in the intervening years. I was disappointed as we'd planned to tackle the Sentinel for a long time, but it had been off limits in previous summers due to fire damage. We retreated to a "sitting rock" for lunch and some photos looking down the gully below Watsons Crags. Then I noticed a possible alternative route...
