Maria Island

Postby ILUVSWTAS » Wed 16 Feb, 2011 3:28 pm

Hi all.
Spent the long weekend on Maria Island with my wife and son. We had a fantastic time, it's such a beautiful place. Had been 15 years since my last visit and it wont be long before I go back.
We ate some seafood, did several short walks, and I climbed Mt Maria. My wife and son made it to within a hundred metres or so of Bishop and Clerk (he's only 5) and we were back in under 4hrs!!

A really special place highly recommended for family holidays or even the more adventerous.

And lastly a few from the very impressive Painted Cliffs. Sandstone cliffs which could be mistaken for art.

Sure did! Well the abalone anyway. Obviously I didnt take the crayfish, although I did get one outside of the reserve, just hadnt catered for getting any. Get enough crays down here... poor mans food really

I love Abalone while camping though!!!

Thanks Nuts! :P

Nice, dude. Been far too long since I've been to Maria... may have to do a winter trip over there.

Thanks Doogs and Oll!!
I am already looking at a return trip, it really did just blow my mind how beautiful it is!! So much to see and do! The imagination is the only limitation!! We ded several short walks based from Darlington, all really interesting. The ruins were fascinating, the Reservour is cool, the beaches are gorgeous. The peaks are easy..... Most of the people are friendly... Had a guy next to us who thought there were shops on the island, so they had little food. We cooked Abalone for them on one night and some other campers gave them a huge bag of food. Which they left out overnight and the possums ate...

Nice shots, Maria is definantly a cool place to spend a few days, and the views from the peaks is pretty impressive aren't they. I especially love the Cape Barren Geese photo.

Bishop and Clerk. Parson and Clerk is a different place entirely.
