[LOST] Camera

I lost my Panasonic Lumix DMC-FT1 camera in the area around Square Tarn in the South Picton ranges - it was within 100 metres of the campsite on the lake shore. In a line between the campsite and the small ridge above the outlet creek. It was orange and was attached to a small(10cm) white tripod - it is waterproof so should last a while.
Reward offered, in fact keep the camera I just want my photos!!!

Hmmm, I do resemble that remark but, no my last pic was a still overlooking a very tranquil Square Tarn, tranquility was lost very soon after .

HaHa, no more ENE, campsite is just Nth of tarn and there is a track that crosses the outlet creek, then above that in an Easterly direction is a small ridge, somewhere between that ridge and the campsite.....I WILL return soon!!!

I don't stuff about half losing things matey - I think it's wedged in knee high scrub, tantalisingly close but impossible to see!!!!

OK getting desperate now this is the search area - 1 metre either side of the red line within the blue box - should be simple really!
Still keen on getting a metal detector in the sth somewhere before I head back up, anyone know where to hire one?

why not attach the track as a .gpx file? tas uni might have a detector for hire? i dunno...

Mate, I've been following the lost camera saga the whole time, you gotta open that thread up again and tell us the story on finding it!

OK, this should be a lost or a found post, but I locked the lost one and don't know how to open it, soooooo.......

I went to the Sth Picton Range for a very cruisy 3 day walk on Feb 8-11.
The weather was perfect and I had a mate of over 30 years with me on his first real bushwalk.
Where the trip to Square Tarn should take 2-3 hrs it took us 5.5 on account of his fitness level, but a top fella that wore every bit of pain with a smile on his face. But we got there and enjoyed a beautiful evening, massive stir fry and plenty of vodka. Throughout the day many memorable pics were taken....
In the morning as is my custom I was up in the pre-dawn light taking pics and enjoying the magic of that time of day - after wandering about for 2 hours I went back to camp to prepare a suitable anecdote of sausage and eggs to subdue a slightly pounding head. It was only now I noticed my camera gone........how could this be ? I took a photo just over there half an hour ago........
Much searching over the next 2 days found not a trace, the amazing views from Burgess Bluff and Mt Chapman would have to be captured on my mobile phone

After posts here, a kind gentleman in the form of 'nuts' volunteered his metal detector and another kind gentleman 'iluvswtas' volunteered to courier said MD from the north of the state, nice people!

By the time I laid my hands on the beastie I was determined to find the camera, far less for the retail value - maybe $400 but the pics of me and my oldest mate on a mission were absolutely priceless to me. Today 19/3/11 was the day, a reasonable forecast and I left Hobart early and anxious. It took me exactly 2 hours to get to Square Tarn and I was on the prowl. The first battery died withiln 20 minutes, leaving me very despondent, if the second battery only lasted half an hour this would be a very flawed plan.

So I went for a wander taking a couple of pics with a crappy little replacement camera I took through The Western Arthurs the previous week. Thoughts went back to the 4 days of snow and hail the region copped and my camera search wasn't looking too positive. I decided to call my wife, so I headed up to the small ridge where I remembered taking my last photos. As I was dialling the familiar number something caught my eye, well bugger me there she was, nestled in some low scrub on a cushion plant, as plain as day!!!!

So now for the next 30 years me and my buddy can look back and laugh at the pics from this trip with just that little bit of extra sting in the tale.
BTW - he left Tasmania a changed man, has lost 6kg's and looking forward to his next trip in a couple of years.

I've been following your lost camera thread Dan, hoping you'd have some luck. I've occasionally, ahem, misplaced things in the bush and found them again to great relief. What a fantastic outcome! Well done.

Great find SBS! I remember the last time I lost a camera on a multi day hike I cried . I was on the isle of Jura off the west coast of scotland and was 12 years old!

Yep the mind boggles, I went over that area multiple times over 2 days, I knew it was up there!!!
My latest theory is that, glacier like, snow melt dragged it out of the scrub to rest it on the cushion plant, or else a smart *&%$#! wombat is playing me for a fool!
