Nope - just a complete misspelling... too many thumbs
But thanks

This is an unusual angle on a fairly well known SA peak.
You might also hazard where I might have taken it from.

Devils Peak dominates here, the photo is taken from a climb up Mt Brown, most likely the south-eastern side, probably not from the summit. It is very green, wow. Eggs that is a top photo, you're right, it is an unusual photo angle for a peak that is so often seen as a distinct peak from the Pichi Richi Rd.

Your turn jez_au
Devils Peak in a very green year but from the track down the north side of Mt Brown.
Devils Peak is in Pichi Richi pass in the Flinders Ranges - and it is North West from Mt Brown

Hi Tony, ah Elder Range, a favourite of mine. No the photo isn't this. Elder Range lies to the south of the national park, and rises much higher above the plains than the competition photo. You're not so far off though.

This is Elder Range: http://www.flickr.com/photos/73115147@N00/1004100429

Looks like the back of the pound taken from the road near the road in to Wilpena chalet/resort/whatever they call it. Don't know the name of the hills though.

I think this is Rawnsley Bluff - with Point Bonney the larger mountain to the right.
That is the southern most point of the pound.

Michael is heading in the right direction with his "road near the road" if I understand it correctly.

Rawnsley Bluff is not in the photo, it is further south (left). The peak on the right is Point Bonney (1158m). Anyone care to guess the name of the peak in the middle (1048m)? (the peak on the left is not named)

Yes, I think I mean what you think I mean. I took a quite similar photo there a year or so ago.

Now you've made me dig out my 1:50k Wilpena map. I think you mean Illuka Hill?

Winner! Ding ding. Illuka Peak it is (used to be named Illuka Hill on older topo maps). Tried to climb it last year when we were locked in by flood affected roads, it was a half-hearted affair, 4 hours in and with dense vegetation and a few more hours to go we gave up, we were keen to get an updated road report to head north.

Need a map for that one, even the online mapping I found didn't have it marked. Guess my map is a bit old - 3rd ed, 1990, but I doubt the hills have moved much since then :)

Still in SA

Name the peak and the settlement visible from the peak in the lower photo.

After three hours searching I think I have finally got it, Mt Ive, Gawler Ranges National Park, and Mt Ive Station.

Well done Tony. That's exactly right. It would have been a lot easier if I had posted a photo of the Submarine.

Thanks Michael,

It was a tough one.

While we are on the subject of cairns, what is the name of this cairn, it is in NSW.

Hi Graham,

You are correct, it is Mt Poole (Red Hill), but before I can award the next turn , my questions with the photo was what is the the cairn called.

Ah, didn't read that bit. I have to admit I've never been further north-west than Burke (did sdome roustabouting in south-west Queensland back in the seventies) and have used the internet to answer this.

My research indicates that this is Sturts Cairn. Interesting history. I'd like to venture out there some time.

Hi Graham,

It is called Sturts Cairn, the north west of NSW is an intersting area, we visited Cameron Corner, Olive Downs, Fort Grey/Lake Pinaroo, saw some Brolgas in Fromme Swamp, a great place.

Your turn.

Thanks Tony. Wer plan to drive from Laverton WA to Aliced Springs next year so we might extend through the west of NSW.

My next one is also in NSW - just. Name the rivers.

Guess: Somewhere near or in the Avon - Mount hendrick scenic reserve. Somewhere high, I guess because of the places visible. Maybe Mt Hump?
