Game: Where-is-it (Aussie)

Postby Maelgwn » Fri 06 May, 2011 4:08 pm

Don't worry. I spent far too much time on google too to figure that out.

I am in Vic. Name the peak.

yes ... but we have to start obscure right? ... Part of the guessing game?

The old where am I game on ski.com.au used to always have obscure images, but I guess there were a whole lot less areas to pull them from for a bit of variety.

O and nope, on top of a mountain.

Sorry it is not Bimberi.

It seems not many BWA members are familar with the ACT, this peak or Mount ? is further east in the center of the southern ACT.

Hi Bluegum Mic,

You are way too far east, you where much closer with Coronet Peak which is only 6 k away from the Peak in question. After checking the map the mountain only has a one word name, but us locals call it Mount ?

PS it is not Yankee hat south, that is also too far south east.

Yes John, it is Mt Namadgi, my favourite place in the Namadgi NP, I am thinking about going up there in about three weeks.

Your turn John

Yes Federal Pass, crossing the Katoomba landslide. A bit of rain and mist about that day.
Over to you Phil.

What am I looking at? Extra points if you can name the location of this very scenic campsite.

Looks a bit like Mt Jagungal from the south east, but I am not familar with the campsite, could be near the Brassy's

I can't fault you, Tony.
It is indeed Mt Jugungal from the SE. The campsite is under the rocky outcrop Pt 1829 near The Bulls Peaks.
It was a particularly lovely morning.

You turn.

Thanks Phil,

Mt Jagungal is one of those mountains that you never forget, I have only seen it from the south in winter with snow.

These next photos are in NSW, I am on a ridge just south of a mountain, which one is it.

Well... there are too many trees for a significant peak on the Main Range. You seem to a fair ways above the surrounding area. How about Mt Guntartan?

Hi Phil you are right that it is not the Main Range, it is not Mt Gungartan and like Gungaratan it is north of the Main Range.

Hey Tony. This guess feels a little naive but just to get it out of the way... Jugungal?

Otherwise I'm stuck. There is a little regrowth on the gums which suggest it's not too far north. Unfortunately my experience of the area is limited.

Hi Phil,

Good guess, you nailed it, it is Mt Jagungal, we climbed it from the north and went down the south west side where the photo was taken as there is a track back down to the Greymare fire trail (AAWT).
