Mersey Forest Rd

Postby ringeroo » Sun 04 Sep, 2011 11:17 am

We plan later in the year to exit the Walls via the lake Myrtle Track out to Mersey Forest Rd. Seems the road past the WOJ car park turnoff is rather dodgy? Does anyone have some recent experience and or knowledge of when and if it will be graded in the future?

G'day Phil,
Was up there Thursday right to the end to head into Grail Falls and it was suitable for 2wd vehicles ,there are pot holes but you just drive to suit the condition of the road .
Dont think grading of this part of the road will be a high priority in the near future .

Thanks Corvus. Seems a bit ironic but the access routes that are kept in reasonable condition seem also to be those that are in use by logging companies?

Yes Phil you are most probably correct but you must remember who made this access road that we can all use and why it was made :)

Spot on there Corvus, they aren't likely to do much to if they aren't using it at the time, as their budget is quite stretched.

Never my intention to criticise Parks Tas as they do an amazing job inspite of budgetry constraints! Seems it may be a longer walk out than we first thought as it seems commercial operators are not that keen to take their vehicles further then the Walls CP :D

Hi ringeroo, please dont think that I was 'being critical of you, I was just saying what is the case with FT. No point in spending the money if they don't have to.
We use the road quite often and it's not too bad at all, just can't do 80k up there but 50K or so is fine, and it's not that far up to the Juno creek carpark.

Phil,
The Lake Myrtle/Bill Track is only around 6km from the start of the WOJ track and not hard to do and the road is thanks to Hydro and Forestry Tas not Parks :)
