Pity about the silicone egg cup.
Have been experimenting myself with the chocolate version over the weekend.I used a 400ml kathmandu aluminium cup with orange plastic handle(my usual hiking coffee cup) placed in an el cheapo 900 ml aluminium pot with enough water to just float the cup as it cannot turn upside down with my little aluminium frypan as lid.This worked out very nice after 15 minutes simmering after I varied the amount of water I added to get it right using my usual plastic spoon as my measuring device.The only problem is that I can't have a coffee with my cake if I use my coffee cup to cook the cake and my hiking/fishing mate would not be too happy if I didn't make a coffee and cake for him.
I will keep an eye out for a suitable lightweight cooking vessel.

I can see I'll have to buy the Jetboil cooking pot. I reckon that would solve the problem.

I'll try the next one in a normal saucepan and see how that goes.

Cooking problem solved - just take a microwave oven with you .

Wow..... I'm almost considering it.

But at a pinch, I reckon the warm half-cooked batter of CIAC would be just fine.

That reminds me, I have one sachet left, and some cream in the fridge

Where do you buy it?

Here in Midland, WA, I went into my local Coles and Woolworths, they don't have it, not that I could see anyway.

I'll try IGA tomorrow.

Should be in with the normal cake mixes. Woolies had a bin full of them for half price a while back.

so I got some silicone muffin cups to try this out in. Got six off ebay, with a square-ish top. They fit exactly right into my trek900 pot, and I just tried one on the stove top. Kinda failed, burned the bottom, and might have destroyed the cup, the silicone now has a gummy spot... I don't think that's a good thing. I need to figure out some way to have a water buffer, so next attempt will be with the cup floating. or figure out some manner of trivet. But the cake sorta kinda worked, and it was mostly edible.

I think a trivet is all you need and dry bake them, you only need a very low heat though.

Food grade silicone is good to 400 C from memory so you got things pretty hot!

I need to figure out some way to have a water buffer, so next attempt will be with the cup floating.

That's how I did it.Just enough water to float my cup til it just hits the lid.That way the simmering water doesnt get in to the cup and make the cake soggy.

I received my 250ml silicone measuring cup during the week and gave that a try in my 900ml aluminium pot and lid with water in it.This worked really well in around 15 minutes.I am now ordering a second cup because I am pretty sure that I can cook 2 at a time in the same pot which should please my hiking/fishing partner.

Just further to this topic and sidetracking a bit I tried the chocolate cake recipe in the latest bushwalk emag today at home on my hiking cooking gear and it turned out pretty good and will go with that on our next trip.I have just left it up to my hiking/fishing mate to bring in the ice cream

Field tested the chocolate cake in Oct 2016 Bushwalk emag for the first time recently and it came up really well.Comments such as "Best fresh cooked chocolate cake I've ever had in the Jagungal wilderness" seemed to be common but I don't think they had eaten too many fresh cooked chocolate cakes in the Jagungal wilderness
I cooked it on Warnsey' gas converted trangia on a very low heat with the heat further away from the frypan and more dispersed which cooked it a lot more even than using the concentrated heat of my pocket rocket without burning the bottom as much.I also customised an aluminium lid for the frypan at home which made it a bit more like an oven keeping the heat inside the enclosed frypan.

Aeroplane Jelly have got into the act now with microwaveable 'Mug Cake' - there's Caramel, Chocolate and Sticky Date.
Just tried the Sticky Date one on the stove (instead of the microwave (like we did Cake in A Cup) and it came up okay using water although a little moist.
